Abstract

This work provides a foundational review of how physics divides the universe into localized matter and propagating radiation. We unify classical electrodynamics, quantum mechanics, and general relativity under a singular mathematical language: the spatial and tensor symmetries of wavefronts. We trace how the geometry of a source dictates the outward topology of a field---moving from point-source spherical expansions governed by Laplace's spherical harmonics to line-source cylinders, conical shockwaves, and infinite plane waves. We introduce Heitler's gauge separation alongside the Power-Zienau-Woolley (PZW) unitary transformation to establish the exact boundaries of radiative multipole expansions, extending the framework to nuclear gamma channels, relativistic continuous acceleration engines, and statistical blackbody cavity fields. Finally, we explore the mechanical boundaries where pure geometry fails and quantum mechanics takes over, analyzing radiation pressure, Doppler cooling limits, macroscopic phase-locking in Dicke Superradiance, and the complete suppression of motional radiation within the quantum Lamb-Dicke regime.
